Just Tell Them That You Saw Me

Reduction print made from recycled styrofoam, printed with Blick relief inks. This arose from a prompt from a user on Mastodon, my social network of choice. Someone had found an advertisement for “motto buttons” from nearly a century ago. The motto buttons were pins bearing phrases that were ostensibly humorous or memetic in some way. One of them was this phrase, “just tell them that you saw me.” On researching I learned that this was the title of, and central lyric in, a song popular at that time. But the phrase evoked this sorta sad and lonely and possibly mysterious image to me.
